October 22, 2015
The time has come to say goodbye to your beloved furnace. The warm fuzzy feeling it’s been giving you has slowly dissipated. Don’t wait until your furnace leaves you high and dry on a cold winter night to replace it.
Here are a few indicators that your furnace may be failing:
• Unpleasant shouting
As a furnace ages it starts to make weird noises. Squealing, popping, and loud bangs are not uncommon. If you hear these noises it may be time for your furnace to be replaced.
• A foul odor
Call a professional right away if you smell a strong gas odor. You might have a leak in your heat exchanger, which may be a very serious issue.
• Your electric bills are to the moon
Your electric bills are sky high because your furnace has lost its efficiency as it aged. The furnace is running longer to provide the same amount of heat.
• Your home goes from being a sauna to a freezer
Don’t worry you’re not having hot flashes, hot and cold spots are popping up in your home because the furnace isn’t keeping up.
• Dust bunnies have arrived
Older furnaces sometimes lack the ability to filter the air in your home, which is why you may notice dust and dirt beginning to build up.
• Repairs galore
As your furnace ages you may notice that it’s breaking down more often. You may benefit from replacing it, as it becomes more expensive to maintain.
