Make a New Year’s Resolution to Breathe Cleaner Air this Year

During the winter months most of us find ourselves spending more time indoors.  Cooler temps prompt us to tightly seal any cracks in our homes, preventing cold drafts from entering.  This, in turn, seals off your home from any fresh air and raises concentrations of both allergens and pollutants in our homes.

According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), most people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors.  The EPA reports that indoor pollution levels can be anywhere from two to five, to as much 100 times higher than the air outside.  Breathing contaminated air puts the health of you and your family at risk.

Take control of your indoor air quality by reducing pollutants that can contribute to headache, lung irritation and fatigue as well as more long-term conditions such as asthma, allergies and infectious diseases.

If you have a central heating and/or cooling system, the air is circulated throughout your home by this system.  Most heating and cooling systems only use a basic air filter.  These filters were originally designed to protect the equipment and not the people served by the equipment.  The average air filter is only capable of removing 3-5% of the particles that pass through it.  Today, several indoor air filtration products, with various efficiencies, are available to homeowners.

Air filtration products include HEPA filters, air cleaners and air purifiers.  HEPA filters are designed to remove particulate (down to .3 microns) such as dust, pollen, molds and spores, but do not reduce odors or kill germs and viruses.  Air cleaners offer the same removal of particulate (down to .3 microns) from the air and depending upon the brand may offer some removal of bacteria, viruses, and germs, and elimination of odors.  Only air purifiers remove particulate, kill germs and viruses and eliminate odors.

The Carrier Infinity Air Purifier™, the Fresh-Air UV APCO™ In-Duct Air Purifier™ and the GPS-2400 are all highly recommended products that work along with your central heating and cooling system to improve your indoor air quality.

The Carrier Infinity Air Purifier offers exceptionally high air filtration efficiency and patented germicidal technology so effective it even captures and kills airborne pathogens such as bacteria, viruses and mold.  The Infinity Air Purifier allows you to purify the air in your entire home.  It removes 99.98% of allergens from the filtered air, eliminates particulate down to of .3 microns in size, and is 100 times more effective than a standard 1” filter.

The Fresh-Aire UV APCO™, touted as the next generation in IAQ improvement technology, is designed to help sanitize the air and reduce VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) contamination in your home.   The Fresh-Aire UV APCO is installed in the ductwork of your central air system and helps not only reduce mold and bacteria, but also other unwelcome visitors such as airborne odors, toxic chemical vapors, and germs in your home. The addition of a UV Lamp to your home comfort system can reduce your family’s risk of allergic reactions and illnesses as well as eliminate the foul odors associated with such growth on the coil.

And finally, the GPS-2400 by Global Plasma Solutions produces natural, friendly oxidizers that seek out contaminants and odors in your home. The plasma is produced and injected into the moving air stream created by your home comfort system and breaks down toxic gases to harmless natural compounds already prevalent in your air supply. In addition to the reduction of gases and odors, plasma also reduces particulates and kills mold, bacteria and viruses. The GPS-2400 model fits inside any comfort system.

You can help your family breathe easier this winter and reduce exposure to contaminated air by adding an indoor air purifier to your central heating and cooling system.  Investigate which one makes the most sense for your home and family and celebrate the New Year with cleaner, healthier air!
