October 9, 2012 – Tinton Falls, NJ – A.J. Perri Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling will be participating in the 2012 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk for the third consecutive year on October 21. In 2011, the AJP Walkers, as a team of 15 co-workers, family members and friends, raised $3,400 for the American Cancer Society.
Debbie Kern will serve as team leader, a role she has filled since 2010. Kern was a participant in the walk for several years before joining A.J. Perri, and spearheaded the effort to form a team at the leading heating, cooling and plumbing company in central New Jersey. Management quickly got on board with the idea and in 2010 the AJP Walkers was born.
“Not only are we helping a worthy cause, we all have personal reasons to walk. We do it for our friends and loved ones who have battled cancer,” stated Kern. “It’s such an easy thing to do. We walk at our own pace, along the ocean for part of the time, with our co-workers, family, and friends. We consider how lucky we are to be surrounded by the strength of the survivors and supporters, and we are inspired by them.”
For this year, the AJP Walkers have set a goal of $3,500, and are more than halfway to that goal. “We are very appreciative of the generosity of all who have donated to AJP Walkers toward this worthy cause and look forward to hitting, and exceeding, our fundraising goal,” said Kern. And, of course, they’re hoping for nice weather.
The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk helps to fund groundbreaking research and help people in need receive the screenings and services that they require. Since 1993, eight million walkers have participated in walks in more than 270 communities across the country and raised more than $460 million in the fight against breast cancer.
