Baking any kind of sweet treat makes your home smell wonderful but baking every day would be an impractical solution to wanting your home to smell great. If your resolution this year is to refresh your home, consider these DIY options that make your home smell wonderful without breaking out the baking tools.

Craft an Orange Clove Pomander

If you want your home to smell like a bakery mixed with the holidays, give this natural air freshener a try. Pierce the skin of an orange in several places and stud with cloves. As the fruit dries, it releases a sweet and spiced scent. For more intricate ways to make this, check out the directions here.

Citrus Diffuser for the Sink

There is a funky smell coming from the garbage disposal…again. But if you have any citrus around, you also have a natural diffuser on hand. Run some orange, lemon or lime peels through the disposal. The citrus smell will circulate through your sink to make it smell fresh and clean.

Set out Coffee grounds

The smell of coffee can awaken even the sleepiest of non-morning people but it can also combat icky room odors. Grind them, brew them or bake them in the oven to neutralize odors and fill your space with your favorite coffee shop smell.

Turn your bath into a spa with Eucalyptus

Try hanging a few sprigs of eucalyptus in the corner of your shower for an authentic spa smell. The steam from your shower will release the scent from the branches and fill the room with its relaxing scent.

Regular Filter Changes

Changing out your filters regularly allows your system the refresh it deserves for working hard. Odor build-up is created in your air filters over time from removing dust and particles from the air and not changing them regularly can fill your home with a funky smell. Once changed, your filter can do a great job of catching more air contaminants and your home will smell great again.

If you feel like your home is not smelling like an oasis after trying out these DIY options, you can always hire a professional to check out your ventilation system. Having your air ducts cleaned and system tuned-up will make sure your system is in good shape to circulate clean air.
