Tinton Falls, NJ (January, 2012) – A.J Perri, Inc., a local heating and cooling company, wants to ensure the public is aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide gas, which is produced in furnaces and can be deadly if not ventilated outside. According to the CDC, the United States averages about 500 carbon monoxide (CO) fatalities each year and the greatest number of these are in January.

“Since furnaces run with increased frequency) during the cold months, this is the time of year when people should be thinking about whether their furnace is properly ventilated and the carbon monoxide is not trapped in their home,” says Kevin Perri, Vice President of A.J Perri, Inc.
Any appliance that runs on combustion will produce CO, including gas or oil furnaces, gas clothes dryers, gas ovens, gas water heaters, wood burning stoves, and fireplaces. When an appliance is functioning correctly and is ventilated properly, carbon monoxide is not an issue. “However, all furnaces should be checked annually by a qualified professional to ensure that they are not malfunctioning or releasing carbon monoxide indoors,” states Perri.
As a back-up to yearly maintenance, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends a CO alarm outside each sleeping area in every home. Carbon monoxide is odorless and colorless; its danger lies in how difficult it is to detect, even at fatal levels. When inhaled, it replaces the oxygen in your body and accumulates rapidly in blood.
Symptoms of CO poisoning are similar to those of the flu but without any fever:
- dizziness
- headaches
- nausea
- fatigue
If you or anyone in your home displays these symptoms and you suspect CO poisoning:
- Turn off all combustion appliances and get out of the house.
- If you start to feel better with fresh air, see a doctor immediately and tell him or her that you suspect CO poisoning; they’ll do a blood test to confirm.
- Contact a qualified professional to make all necessary repairs

Team leader Debbie Kern, a participant in the walk for several years before joining A.J. Perri, encouraged the company to become involved. A.J. Perri’s management supported the idea and in 2010 the AJP Walkers made their debut; the company also makes a significant annual contribution to the team.
Team members focus on friends and loved ones who have had any type of cancer as inspiration during the walk. Says Kern, “Personally, the walk provides an opportunity to participate for a worthy cause. Because the walk location is so accessible and participation relatively effortless – walking completely at your own pace on a flat course with an ocean view for a portion of the walk – committing to the event becomes an easy decision. Not to mention, the event is truly inspirational – to be part of something so big with survivors and supporters involved. It is an effort that really is a ‘feel good’ for everyone involved.”
The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk helps to fund groundbreaking research and help people in need receive the screenings and services that they require. Last Sunday’s event raised more than $1.1 million toward that goal.

Tinton Falls, NJ, (August 25, 2011) – There’s a “very peaked season from August to October, with maximum activity occurring in September for hurricane activity,” according to the AOML (Atlantic Oceanographic & Meteorological Laboratory). With Hurricane Irene now threatening the East Coast, locals are bracing for the storm. Being prepared for a hurricane can keep you and your family safe and comfortable during the storm and helps save time and money in the aftermath. “Getting your home’s air conditioning system ready for hurricane season is an important part of being prepared,” states Kevin Perri, Vice President of A.J Perri, Inc.
“An important part of your home and overall comfort is your air conditioning system. It’s also one of the most expensive investments, after your home. Making sure it weathers the storm is important to not only you and your family’s comfort, but also to your pocketbook,” says Perri.
A.J. Perri lists some important steps to take in order to prepare an air conditioning system for hurricanes or extreme weather and some precautions to take in the aftermath of a storm.
• Turn off your air conditioning system. Make sure your entire system is turned off, at the thermostat and the circuit breaker. This will help avoid any unnecessary damage. Power to your air conditioner can be a fire hazard or cause electrical shock, in the event of flooding.
• Batten down the hatches! Securing your equipment is one of the most important steps you can take. The hardware holding your air conditioning unit in place can rust or come loose over time, and loose equipment can move and cause significant damage. Make sure to use hurricane straps or bolts to secure your system to the base.
• Eliminate loose items near or around the air conditioning unit. Remove any items near the outside of the air conditioning unit that might become airborne and cause impact damage to the unit such as patio furniture, plants, toys, and bikes.
• Flooded air conditioners. If you live in an area that flooded, make sure conditions are dry before you try to operate your air conditioner. NEVER restore power to the system until you know you are completely safe to do so. It’s best to have a professional technician do a thorough inspection to determine if it is safe to operate.
• Impact damage or debris. Before turning the air conditioner back on, check it for damage or debris around that could cause it to malfunction or overheat. If you are unsure, have a professional technician check your system.
• Salt water damage. Salt water has a corrosive affect on air conditioning systems, if not addressed immediately it can destroy your system over time. A professional technician will know how to gently clean the affects of salt water from your equipment.
These simple steps can be the difference between major and minor repairs and being prepared for severe weather can lessen the aftermath in terms of reduced home comfort as well. Perri reminds homeowners, “If your air conditioning system is compromised in any way after a storm, make sure to contact a professional technician. They will ensure the safety of you and your home.”

Tinton Falls, NJ, (June 2011) – The already rising temperatures this summer are running many air conditioning systems into overdrive and causing older systems to sweat it out. Homeowners with older systems may find that their air conditioners aren’t cooling as efficiently or maybe not be cooling at all, and with money tight it’s hard to think about spending extra money on anything. A.J. Perri, a local heating and cooling service company, wants homeowners to know that there are still federal tax credits and state utility rebates available for homeowners who want to replace older systems with newer, energy efficient ones.
Kevin Perri, Vice President of A.J. Perri, Inc. states, “Through 2011 the federal government is still offering federal tax credits equal up to 10% of the installed price. You can save up to $300 on qualifying central air conditioning systems and up to an additional $150 on qualifying heating systems, equaling a total of up to $500 in savings when replacing both. To qualify for these credits the central air conditioning system must have greater than or equal to 16 SEER and EER = 13; in the case of heat pumps: SEER=15, EER=12.5 and HSPF=8.5; and for a furnace AFUE>/= 95% with an ecm motor. At A.J. Perri we can help you choose the right system to qualify for these tax credits, making this process easier for you.”
According to Perri, homeowner’s are also eligible for up to $1000 Advantage Utility rebates, valid while funds last, on 92 AFUE (or higher) heating systems with an ecm motor, up to $400; compressor and coil combination (a/c) that yield greater than or equal to 16 SEER and EER = 13, and in the case of heat pumps, SEER = 15, EER = 12.5 and HSPF = 8.5, up to $600.
Currently New Jersey is one of only 5 states still offering residential HVAC rebates. To learn more about rebates for central air conditioners and eligibility for this program, visit the New Jersey Clean Energy Website and their COOLAdvantage program, http://www.njcleanenergy.com/cool.
“We want all of our New Jersey neighbors to be comfortable this summer. We feel it’s our job to help homeowners find the best system to fit their home comfort needs as well as their financial needs. We are happy to help customers take advantage of the great tax credits and rebates currently available. And we’re also able to offer different financing plans tailored to fit the needs of our customers,” states Perri.

Tinton Falls, NJ, (March 2011) – “Energy-efficiency,” “cost savings,” and “green” are phrases that are seeing a lot of action these days. With concerns of an energy shortage, rising energy costs and the average homeowner’s budget shrinking, it’s no wonder. The heating and cooling industry is responding to these concerns by developing new innovative, energy-efficient equipment, designed to perform better, decrease energy consumption and lower utility bills, all while providing improved home comfort. To keep up with this new technology, service companies need to be educated on the latest and greatest. A.J. Perri, a local New Jersey heating, cooling and plumbing company, is standing out in the crowd, delivering state-of-the-art products from companies, like Carrier, Aprilaire and Navian to name a few, backed by highly trained technicians.
As the technology of the equipment has changed so has the role of a heating and cooling service company. No longer are they called only for installation and/or maintenance of a system, they’re now important resources for homeowners as well.
Kevin Perri, Vice President of A.J. Perri states, “We like to think of ourselves as the experts of the heating, cooling and plumbing industry. We want to be able to provide innovative products to meet our customers’ needs, offer the best installation and maintenance services, as well as be a resource for homeowners to turn to with their questions.” Perri says they’ve even established an “Ask An Expert” section on their website to offer homeowners a place to voice any questions they may have. Homeowners are able to send an email and can expect a reply back within 24 hours.
One of the innovative products on the market today is the new Carrier Infinity™ Heating/Cooling System. Products like this were developed to meet the “energy-efficiency”, “cost saving” and “green” needs of homeowners. This group of products is designed to control temperatures, humidity and air quality while continually monitoring a home’s comfort levels, and automatically adjusting for maximum efficiency and performance.
But along with this new technology comes the challenge of keeping technicians properly trained and educated. Heating and cooling systems are typically the most expensive equipment in most homes and according to the EPA over half of the energy used in the average U.S. home comes from heating and cooling. Hence, heating and cooling technicians play a very important role. They are responsible for the equipment that controls the temperature, humidity and total air quality in homes. A technician must also be versed in mechanical, electrical and electronic components, such as motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, thermostats and switches. In addition they maintain, diagnose, and correct problems throughout the entire system using special tools and test equipment. It’s important to have a qualified technician to install, maintain, and recommend options when it’s time for replacement.
Perri states, “Just being licensed isn’t enough for today’s technology. In order to keep up with the ever-changing environment in which we work we require our technicians to have a minimum of 180 hours of improvement training each year. This training comes in a variety of ways. For example, companies like Carrier, Navien, Aprilaire, Honeywell, Fujitsu and many more provide training at our facility on all new products and cutting-edge industry improvements. Technicians are also required to stay current in their field by taking continuing education courses. In addition, we have weekly meetings for all our technicians that cover a variety of topics, including: upcoming technology, communication, and customer relations, just to name a few. And from day one on the job, all of our employees are educated on the importance of our 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee.”

Tinton Falls, NJ, (February 2011) – The cost of everything seems to be increasing these days; food, clothing, gas, and don’t forget utilities! It’s no surprise that most of us are looking for ways to cut out extra expenses. Kevin Perri, Vice President of A.J. Perri says, “Don’t look any further than your home to cut costs. There are many things that homeowners, by being proactive, can do to make a difference.” Perri recommends several “low or no-cost” tips, monthly utility bill budgeting, and new innovations in the heating industry that can save you for years to come.
There are several “low or no-cost” tips that can save you money during the heating season. First, replace or clean your furnace’s filter approximately every 30 days. Dirty filters restrict airflow, forcing the system to be less efficient and work even harder. Second, remove objects from in front of your heat vents in each room to help make sure your system is more efficient and to prevent heat from becoming trapped. Next, make sure windows and doors are completely sealed at all times. Although they are closed, windows and doors tend to lose heat. Caulking windows to seal air in prevents heat loss, and results in huge money savings. And lastly, if you haven’t had your heating system serviced in the last year consider doing so. Studies show that properly maintaining your heating and cooling system improves efficiency and can reduce energy bills by up to 35%!
Perri states, “Another way to help homeowners during the high heating months is to contact their local utility company. Utility companies can calculate a budget plan for the upcoming year, based on your previous heating bills.” Regardless of how much energy you use per month, a fixed rate would be applied monthly, and the difference would be applied to your bill at the end of the year. Budgeting can help you avoid an unexpectedly costly heating bill, and will give you time to save money.
New innovations in the heating and cooling industry are also leading the way to cost savings. Hybrid systems, one such innovation, allow you to take advantage of the competitive costs of gas vs. electric. Perri recommends Carrier’s Hybrid system, which uses both a gas furnace and a heat pump. A heat pump works as an air conditioner in warm weather, but can also reverse the process and heat the home in cooler climates. With Hybrid Heat, you can use the heat pump to heat your home in the late fall and early winter months. This allows you to take advantage of the competitive cost of electricity versus gas this year and in years to come.
Perri states, “Programmable thermostats can automatically adjust the temperature at various times of day, to maintain maximum comfort levels while at home and reduce energy consumption while away from the home.” Carrier’s latest innovation the Infinity System Remote Access Kit, allows you to change your comfort settings while you are away from home, via the Internet or your phone. This results in up to a 25% savings on your energy bills.
Whether you follow these easy “low or no-cost” tips or are looking to upgrade your current heating system, look no further than the inside of your home. These great tips can help you save money now and in the future!

TINTON FALLS, NJ (December 28, 2010) – Legislation passed into law just this past week has extended the tax credits for homeowners who make qualified energy efficient retrofits to their homes. Known as the 25C Tax Credits, these tax credits are extended through 2011, but contain some differences from the previous 2009 – 2010 tax credits that homeowners should be aware of such as: a cap on the total amount of credits homeowners are eligible for, varying maximums set by product group, and changes in qualifying equipment standards.
From January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011, eligible homeowners can claim 10% of the costs, capped at $500, for the installation of qualified energy efficient improvements, with some limitations. The cap is on the total amount of credits a homeowner can claim between 2006 and 2011, not just for 2011. Kevin Perri, President of A.J. Perri states, “A homeowner who has already claimed $500 or more in credit through this allowance will be unable to claim new credits for improvement made during 2011.”
Next, all qualifying energy efficient products have a tax credit worth 10% of installed costs with restrictions set to establish maximum limits for the different product categories. Qualifying central air conditioners have a $300 maximum; gas furnaces, oil furnaces, boilers a $150 maximum; heat pumps a $300 maximum; and water heaters a $300 maximum. These individual maximum amounts are additive to a $500 maximum lifetime tax credit.
And lastly, the qualifying standards for the central air conditioners, heat pumps and water heaters have not changed; however, the new law increases the qualifying standards for natural gas hot water boilers, propane hot water boilers, oil furnaces and oil hot water boilers to 95% AFUE (from 90% AFUE). The qualifying standards for natural gas furnaces and propane furnaces remain at 95% AFUE.
The extension of the federal tax credits give homeowners another chance to replace old, inefficient heating, cooling and plumbing systems and save money. “Advancements in technology, energy efficiency, and performance in the last ten years mean that the equipment you buy today will pay for itself quicker,” states Perri. “Replacing older, inefficient equipment allows you to save money with the tax credit, lower energy usage and decrease your monthly utility bills.”

Tinton Falls, NJ, July 29, 2010 - “Going green” is not a new term for most of us, however, it might be as it applies to the plumbing in your home. According to Kevin Perri, President of A.J. Perri Heating and Cooling, “Green plumbing is plumbing that is designed to be the most energy efficient and at the same time conserve the most water. A great by-product of saving on water and energy is that you will also be saving on your monthly utility bills.” Green plumbing involves anything from changing traditional fixtures and faucets, to water saving fixtures, to installing energy saving water heaters. Some basic green plumbing products include toilets, sinks and showerheads, water heaters, hot water re-circulating, and high-efficiency appliances.

Tinton Falls, NJ, May 25, 2010 – A.J Perri, Inc. has been awarded the prestigious 2009 Angie’s List Super Service Award! This award reflects a company’s consistently high level of customer service.
“We are especially honored by this award because our customers nominated us. Knowing we are so highly regarded is a reward in itself,” said Kevin Perri, President of A.J. Perri. This recognition is awarded to less than 5 percent of companies on Angie’s List, as they must achieve and maintain a superior service rating on Angie’s List throughout the entire prior year. With this rigorous eligibility requirement the honor is difficult to achieve.
Angie’s List provides consumers a forum in which they can share their reviews and ratings of local companies that they hire. These ratings are based strictly on feedback from members of Angie’s List and companies cannot pay to be on this list, nor can they put themselves on the list. Companies are rated on their response time, prices and quality of work. More than 750,000 consumers use Angie's List to find high quality contractors and service companies.
“Our Super Service Award winners are the cream of the crop when it comes to customer service,” said Angie Hicks, founder of Angie’s List.
Customers of A.J. Perri, Inc. Heating, Cooling & Plumbing will not be surprised of this earned honor. A.J. Perri has been serving New Jersey with trustworthy and dependable service since 1971. Tinton Falls, NJ, May 12, 2010 – On Saturday, May 8th the statewide competition for SkillsUSA took place in Somerset, NJ at the Garden State Exhibit Center. This all day event allows vocational students to compete in their individual areas of study. SkillsUSA is a great competitive opportunity for vocational students as it seeks “to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance, and to keep training relevant to employers’ needs.” Matthew Olmsted, a Junior and HVAC (heating, cooling and ventilation) student at East Brunswick Vocational School, was able to compete in this recent SkillsUSA competition through a sponsorship from local heating and cooling company, AJ Perri, Inc. The HVAC competition was a full day, starting at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. The students had to complete a series of tests to compete, from soldering and braising stations, to HVAC problem diagnosing stations, and finally, a written exam.
Once the competition was complete, the results were tallied and the day was completed with an awards ceremony. Students received bronze, silver or gold medals for their efforts. The winners of this competition also have the opportunity to win several scholarships that are available. In addition, the gold medal winners have the opportunity to compete nationally in the SkillsUSA championships that take place in Kansas City, MO in late June. This championship competition provides a showcase for the best career technical students in the nation.
Matthew’s teacher, George Gent Jr., states, “This is a wonderful experience for my students and a great way to demonstrate their skills and talents. I’ve been teaching for 7 years and we have competed every year. I enjoy being part of this competition, watching it build individuals’ confidence and seeing how it changes individuals’ lives. A.J. Perri is a great local company that not only supports the students in this competition but helps them later with employment opportunities.”
Although Matthew did not walk away with a medal in this year’s competition, he improved his results from last year and is looking forward to competing again in 2011. Last year’s HVAC gold winner, Dan Hullings, was also sponsored by A.J. Perri Heating and Cooling, and won a $10,000 scholarship. Dan is now an employee of A.J. Perri.
The SkillUSA competition, according to Gent, causes a ripple effect. This ripple effect starts with the pride that students get from competing in the event and results in students gaining more confidence in their abilities. And with this renewed confidence, students are also able to make connections that will help further their future careers. The SkillsUSA competition is a win-win for all who are involved, the students, the teachers and future employers!

Tinton Falls, NJ, April 27, 2010 - With the 2009 tax year coming to an end, many homeowners are still unaware of the availability of tax credits through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. These tax credits are for homeowners interested in making energy efficient improvements to their primary residences. Even those familiar with the tax credits may not realize that they continue through the end of this year. Not only can these credits lower your tax liability, but they can also reduce your energy costs by up to 40% and provide for a cleaner environment according to the ACCA, Air Conditioning Contractors of America.
A tax credit is a huge incentive to individuals as it directly applies against a taxpayer’s liability, reducing the amount owed to the IRS on a dollar for dollar basis. Qualified purchases made in 2010 need to be filed with your 2010 taxes. Make sure to check with your tax advisor on how these tax credits can help you reduce your liability.
Homeowners who install qualified furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, central air conditioners, and hot water heaters in 2009 or 2010 may qualify for a tax credit equal to 30% of the installed costs, up to $1500. (Note: Installed costs for HVAC and hot water equipment include equipment and labor.) Basically what this means to you is if you spend $5000 on one or more qualified energy-efficient products you will qualify for a $1500 tax credit (30% of $5000 = $1500). You can find a list of qualified products by going to www.energystar.gov or check with your contractor/technician.
“Advancements in HVAC technology, energy efficiency, and performance in the last ten years means that the equipment you buy today can pay for itself in just a few years,” states Kevin Perri, President of AJ Perri, a local heating, cooling and plumbing company.
Homeowners who install qualified renewable energy efficient improvements, such as geothermal heat pumps, wind and solar energy systems, and fuel cell technologies to existing or new homes will qualify for a special tax credit equal to 30% of the installed costs with no dollar limit. This tax credit is available for the years 2009-2016 and these credits do not count against the $1500 tax credit limits.
If you filed for a tax credit in your 2009 taxes, but did not use the total $1500 credit you can still use the remaining balance on qualified improvements in 2010. In order to claim these tax credits, taxpayers will complete and file a Form 5695 with their regular tax return. They won’t need to submit any more information, but they will be required to keep copies of the certificates provided by the manufacturers or contractors on file.
If you weren’t aware of these tax credits or haven’t taken advantage of the full $1500 amount, consider the advantages of buying energy efficient products in 2010. There is no better time than the present to make energy efficient changes in your home. Until the end of this year you can take advantage of this great tax incentive, reduce your energy usage and lower your overall costs.
For more information regarding tax credits for energy-efficient home improvements, visit www.energystar.gov and http://www.acca.org.

TINTON FALLS, NJ, March 24, 2010 – It’s that time of year when families are making plans to go on vacation for spring break. Before you head out the door, it is important to look after your home. Leaving on vacation is always a stressful endeavor and many times you forget to do something before you leave, and by then it’s too late!
Below is a checklist of tips and tricks that will save you a lot of time and stress in the long run.
- Check all appliances and faucets. Before leaving home you should check all appliances and faucets to make sure that they are off. Accidentally leaving on a stove or a bathtub can cause fires or floods that could well cause permanent damage to your home. Be sure that you unplug everything that you can unplug. Also remember to turn off appliances that are on timers, like alarm clocks and coffee makers. That way you’ll avoid accidents and driving your neighbors crazy!
- Unplug most electronic items especially those that are expensive or many have valuable data on them. These can include your TV set, stereo, and especially computers. If a storm comes through while you are away, these items can be damaged beyond repair simply by being plugged into the wall outlet.
- There is no need for your water heater to continue to operate at a high level since it will not be used throughout the time that you are gone, so turn it down to a low setting.
- Set the heat to fifty degrees - not off, to prevent pipes from freezing - or your air conditioning to seventy-eight degrees in the summer if you are concerned about mildew. Kevin Perri, President of AJ Perri, a local heating and cooling business states that the Infinity Control Thermostat by Carrier enables the homeowner to adjust the temperatures inside their home remotely. This is a great feature for travelers! You can lower the temperatures in your home while you are out of town, make any adjustments for local weather remotely, and then have it turned back up before you return, allowing you to return to a comfortable home. You’ll be saving money and reducing your energy usage, while not losing anything in comfort.
- Unplug your washing machine hoses. These can easily break and if they do while you are away for several days it could cause near catastrophic flood damage to your home before you would be able to do anything about it.
- Have mail and/or newspapers held or picked up. When newspapers and mail pipe up, it is a sure sign that the home is unoccupied and a prime target for thieves. Have a trusted neighbor pick up these items and store them for you until you return home. You can also have the post office hold your mail and pick it up when you return.
- Don’t leave a message on your phone voicemail or email that you are out of town.
- Set timers for your lights. Setting lights on timers is a great way to make your home appear as if people are home, even if in fact the place is deserted. Also leaving a radio or some other noise going in the house that makes sound will make it seem like someone is home.
- Lock all windows and doors throughout your home. Pull blinds down and close drapes. Make sure to hide jewelry and valuable or move them to your safety deposit box.
- Disconnect the garage door so that it cannot be operated by from the outside. Usually there is a lever that you can pull on the opener that can accomplish this easily.
- Remove any perishable food from your refrigerator. Consider making a meal to put in your freezer so that you will have something to eat the first night you are back from vacation.
- Ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye out on your home while you are away. They should have a key for emergencies and a copy of your itinerary in case they need to get a hold of you. Also leave them with numbers for your plumber, electrician, alarm service and veterinarian (if applicable). Your neighbor could even take your trashcans in and out for you to make it look like someone is still home.

TINTON FALLS, NJ, February 28, 2010 – The state of New Jersey currently has $8.3 million dollars available in rebate funds for homeowners interested in replacing old, inefficient appliances with qualifying new, energy-efficient ENERGY STAR® rated appliances. This rebate program, which was launched February 1, 2010, is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
According to U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu, “Appliances consume a huge amount of our electricity, so there’s enormous potential to both save energy and save families money every month. These rebates will help families make the transition to more efficient appliances, making purchases that will directly stimulate the economy and create jobs.”
More than 70% of the energy used in our homes is for appliances, space heating, cooling, water heating and refrigeration. Replacing old appliances and equipment with those that are ENERGY STAR® labeled can help American families save significantly on their utility bills. And by putting more energy efficient appliances in the hands of homeowners, New Jersey hopes to decrease its own statewide energy usage.
According to Kevin Perri, President of A.J. Perri Heating & Cooling, “This program is offering a great opportunity for homeowners who are looking to upgrade their current heating and cooling systems, and water heaters. You will be able to decrease your energy consumption, lower your monthly utility bills, as well as increase your home comfort.” The rebates ranges all the way from $25 on a qualifying gas storage water heater, to $300 on furnaces and central air conditioning, all the way up to $1200 for a Solar Gas back-up water heater.
Perri states, “Rebates are paid on a first-come, first-served basis and will end when the funds run out. Homeowners should act quickly in order to take advantage of this great opportunity.”
To learn more about this rebate program and what appliances are eligible you can go to www.energysavers.gov or www.njcleanenergy.com.

TINTON FALLS, NJ, January 28, 2010 – With the frigid winter temperatures outside A.J. Perri knows that your heating system is getting a work out! A.J. Perri wants you to be able to get the most out of your equipment and offers some helpful tips to do so.
According to Kevin Perri, President of A.J. Perri Heating and Cooling, “A heating system not maintained is a problem waiting to happen. The best way to maximize your current heating system is to have it serviced by a professional every year to ensure that it is operating properly.”
Unmaintained heating and cooling equipment, according to Perri, at the very least, will have escalating operating costs due to inefficient use of fuel and the eventual need for repairs. In the worst case, improperly maintained equipment may compromise safety by causing dangerously high levels of CO, resulting in death or injury.
Perri says, all furnaces should be inspected, cleaned, lubricated, and adjusted on an annual basis by a qualified heating technician. Your annual check-up will help to discover any safety or operational concerns and can lessen the costs of maintenance and operation over the long run.
During a maintenance check, your technician should check and detect any carbon monoxide leaks, prevent the development of any hazardous conditions, and reduce dust particles. Regular maintenance will also ensure that your furnace runs to manufacturer’s design specifications. This helps reduce your monthly heating bills by ensuring that your furnace is operating at peak efficiency and helps increase the lifespan of your furnace. Regular maintenance also reduces the hassle of unexpected and inconvenient breakdowns and eliminates the time spend searching for a reputable contractor on short notice.
According to Perri, something every homeowner can do on their own is to check their air filters and change them as needed. During the heating season when your system is running more you should check your air filters at least monthly. Changing your air filters greatly improves the amount of heat and airflow produced helping your system work more efficiently.
Perri states, you can save around 10% a year on your heating and cooling bills by simply turning your thermostat back 10°–15° for eight hours. You can do this automatically without sacrificing comfort by installing an automatic setback or programmable thermostat.
Using a programmable thermostat, you can adjust the times you turn on the heating or air-conditioning according to a pre-set schedule. As a result, you don't operate the equipment as much when you are asleep or when the house is not occupied so not only will you be saving money but also causing less wear and tear on your equipment.
According to Perri, “Zoned Heating” is an additional way to get more out of your heating system and help eliminate those “too hot” or “too cold” rooms in your home. A “zoned” system allows you to heat the areas of your home where you spend the most time rather than heating the whole house.
A “zoned” system is simply a way of dividing a home into areas with similar cooling and heating needs. With zoning, you can have the same flexibility with your temperature as you do with your lighting, by independently controlling different areas of your home according to their needs and occupancy. You can increase the comfort in your home and decrease the costs by heating only the areas that you spend the most time.
Although it’s cold outside, according to Perri, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice on comfort inside. Follow some simple tips and keep your equipment running efficiently and comfortably for years to come.

TINTON FALLS, NJ, December 8, 2009 – A.J. Perri teamed up with Jersey 101.5 FM and created the “Fan Club” to help those in need receive relief from the summer heat. A.J. Perri recognized a need in their community and looked for a way to help individuals who were unemployed, on a fixed income or just simply in need of a little help. They put together a program that enabled individuals to nominate themselves or loved ones to receive a free fan with the grand prize being a free central air conditioning system professionally installed by A.J. Perri.
A.J. Perri gave away 20 fans over this past summer and they picked a grand prize winner to receive a complete central air conditioning system. Michael Zorner of Union Beach, New Jersey was the worthy recipient of the central air conditioning system. Zorner is a full time teacher that works part time running the music program at his church in addition to working part time as an EMT. He does so much for his community but his jobs were not paying well enough to cover even his basic bills and he could not afford additional air conditioners or central air. He was nominated to receive a fan (in hopes to circulate the air from his one window air conditioner) by a loved one but was the lucky recipient picked by A.J. Perri to receive a complete central air conditioning system.
A.J. Perri installed the central air conditioning system for Zorner on December 8, 2009. They were able to come out in one day and install the system and walk Zorner through how to use and care for his new cooling system. While there Zorner also had the A.J. Perri technicians install a new furnace system. Now Zorner looks forward to being able to experience total home comfort all year round!
A.J. Perri recognizes that everyone needs a little help sometimes and the “cool guys” over at A.J. Perri hope that the fans and central air conditioning system help everyone sleep a little more comfortably.

Tinton Falls, NJ (November 2009) – A.J. Perri Heating & Cooling along with WBHX FM, “The Breeze” radio station are sponsoring a call-in contest that is giving two lucky winners a newly installed hybrid heating system for their home. A.J. Perri wants to get the word out to homeowners regarding the energy efficient benefits of hybrid heat when heating your home.
With the uncertainty of utility costs, homeowners in New Jersey are becoming more and more interested in finding the best, most economical solution for heating their homes. A hybrid heating system like a hybrid car utilizes two energy sources. With a hybrid car this is usually gasoline and electricity, a hybrid heating system uses both a gas (furnace) and electricity (heat pump). By utilizing two different energy sources this “smart” system is able to provide energy-efficient comfort no matter what the temperature is outside. During moderate heating conditions the heat pump will run, as the temperature outside drops, the system will automatically switch to the furnace, your second heating source when that becomes the most economical way to keep your family comfortable.
Mr. And Mrs. Frances Bucco of Matawan, New Jersey, were the lucky recipients of the first of two hybrid heating systems that will be given away. Bucco states, “The man from A.J. Perri came to my house last night and was so pleasant. I still can’t believe I won the “hybrid” heating system. I want to thank you, the A.J. Perri Company, along with the Breeze staff for this wonderful gift. That was so needed! All of our thanks!”
