4 Quick Ways to Update Your Kitchen This Weekend

November 14, 2014

When was the last time you updated your kitchen?

If you have to think about it, your kitchen could probably use a face-lift in time for the holidays.

Updating your kitchen doesn’t have to involve a full-scale remodel. Even small changes can make your home more appealing to guests, as well as potential buyers should you have plans to sell anytime soon.

You can complete any or all of these projects in a weekend and have your kitchen ready for company- or just make it more inviting for you and your family to celebrate the holiday season.

Need an expert? If your face-lift escalates to a full-scale remodel, A.J. Perri is always happy to help. We recommend calling in a professional if you find you need a plumbing repair, to move existing plumbing or need to add a gas line. Give us a call a first.

1- Fresh Paint

Nothing freshens an outdated kitchen faster than a brand new coat of paint on cabinets or walls. If you have interesting architectural features or detail on cabinets, you can choose to accent them with color.

However, it is often less expensive to add color with accessories and neutral canvases remain in style over time.

In this case, you can unify the room and create a fresh canvas for accessories by choosing to use a neutral color throughout your room.

2- Bring in Light

The right lighting can work wonders in a bit of space. From flattering the people in the room, to creating a mood- simply switching your light fixtures or changing your bulbs- can change the way you look at your kitchen.

We recommend swapping old bulbs for more energy efficient CFL or LED lighting, and updating your light fixtures to suit the color or design scheme you want to create.

3- Change Your Hardware

Think of the handles, knobs and pulls in your kitchen as the jewelry of your room. They can either accentuate and improve the entire look of your entire room- or distract visitors from other problem areas.

We recommend hardware that matches or compliments other finishes in the room, like faucets and door handles.

4- Upgrade Your Fixtures

Our final (and favorite) way to quickly update your kitchen is to upgrade your plumbing fixtures. Even small upgrades can help improve the look and even add value to your home.

As an added bonus, upgrading your plumbing fixtures comes with more benefits than good looks and increased property value. Many modern fixtures use less water than ever before. This upgrade can save you money.
